The ISM New York Current Business Conditions index increased for the second consecutive month to 65.1 in October 2020 from 56.1 in the previous month, the highest since April 2019. Employment (58.4 vs 40.2 in September); purchases (56.7 vs 46.7) and expected revenues (60 vs 42.9) returned to growth territory. Meantime, current revenues fell but are still the second highest level reported in 8 months (46.7 vs 50). Also, the Six-Month Outlook rose to an 18-month high of 62.9 from 48.9 in September.

The ISM New York Index measures the performance of the business sector among firms in the New York City area. The index is based on surveys of more than 300 manufacturing firms and tracks production levels, new orders placed, inventory levels, supplier deliveries and employment environment. A reading above 50 indicates an expansion compared to the previous month; below 50 represents a contraction; while 50 indicates no change.
